A gallery showing of photographs taken by children in the Mid Town District of Rockford is the culmination of a nine-month project funded primarily by the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
Introducing children to photography as art gives them an opportunity to observe their environment, express what they see daily, and demonstrate what is important to them in their neighborhood.
By developing a heightened awareness of the history and rich cultural heritage of the Mid Town District, the children are building awareness of their immediate surroundings and learning the principles of photography.
The show and an opening reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 1, at the Rockford College Art Gallery in the Clark Arts Center, 5050 E. State St. An additional showing will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday June 2.
