Explosive fun with KABOOM!

Explosive fun with KABOOM!

Join in an explosive, but safe celebration with Discovery Center as it hosts “KABOOM!” from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 4. Visitors of all ages will experience chemistry, physics, art and music as they relate to our most explosive of national

Visitors will learn about projectile motion as helpless potatoes are blasted through the sky with a potato cannon. Design, build and take home different kinds of real flying rockets, and observe a rocket engine as it fires through its stages right in front of your eyes. July may be hot, but it’s not as hot as a thermite reaction. Watch Discovery Center education staff create molten iron at temperatures reaching 3,000 degrees Celius! Visitors can even make recycled instruments and play along with patriotic favorites from march-master John Philip Sousa. Kids 5 and under can join in special activities just for our youngest friends! All this and more, Friday, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Discovery Center Museum.

Target Greatland and the Illinois Arts Council sponsor the Family Friday series. Cost of all Family Friday events is included with general admission to the museum: $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 2-17 and free to children under 2 years and museum members.
