Family Arts Festival set for April 15

Rockford Area Arts Council will present a free “Family Arts Festival” from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 15, at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St. The festival coincides with the opening of Rockford Art Museum’s “66th Young Artist Show.”

Join the Council for an afternoon of performances and art exhibits by area students from pre-school through high school. See what young people accomplish through studying the arts. Take in the delightful sounds of the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra String Quartet and student choirs. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate. Try your hand at creating art out of shaving cream or making puppets with the Discovery Center staff. Learn some dance moves from the ArtsPlace dancers!

Area arts and cultural organizations and schools will have information on hand to acquaint the public with the numerous local opportunities for people of all ages to involve themselves in the arts.

The Family Arts Festival demonstrates the conviction that the arts are for everyone, and should be a part of every child’s education.
