Fannie May stores open in Rockford

CHICAGO—Chicago-based Fannie May Confections Inc., will open its store at the Mall at CherryVale, 7200 Harrison Ave., at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11 and at Rockford Plaza, 2438 Charles St., at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, to the delight of many local Fannie May candy lovers. The store is one of 47 retail locations opening before Thanksgiving, bringing back the Fannie May tradition just before the holidays.

The staggered schedule of openings leads up to the grand opening of the landmark Fannie May location at Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, just south of the Michigan Avenue Bridge on Nov. 19. The grand opening will mark the date when all 47 stores are expected to be open for business. Aside from locations in Illinois, Fannie May is opening two locations in Wisconsin and four in northwest Indiana.

“We’re using the same recipes and the same ingredients to make sure the candy tastes just the same as everyone remembers. It’s been great to see the look on the faces of our loyal customers as they come in and taste the candy they love,” said Alan Petrik, executive vice president and general manager of Fannie May Confections Inc.

Each store has a broad array of chocolates, with customers still able to hand-pick assortments of candy and fudge at the counter. Longtime favorites pre-packaged, like The Colonial Box, Buttercreams, Caramels, Pixies, Mint Meltaways and Trinidads are also among the more than 70 candy varieties to return so far.

Pre-packaged Fannie May Candies—such as Pixies, Mint Meltaways and Trinidads—also continue to be available through retail outlets like Jewel, Dominick’s and Walgreen’s.
