First chance to see AHL ’Hogs at Carlson Ice Arena Sept. 29

The American Hockey League has officially arrived on the ice here in Rockford.

The IceHogs opened their 2007 training camp last Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Riverview Icehouse. The team has since practiced about an hour or so each day. They held a team scrimmage yesterday (Tuesday, Sept. 25) afternoon.

They will continue practicing at the Riverview Icehouse daily until they travel to Peoria Friday night, Sept. 28, for the first of their back-to-back exhibition games against the Rivermen. The IceHogs will face off against The Rivermen at 7 p.m. at Peoria’s Carver Arena. Both teams will pack up and travel back to Rockford for the Saturday night, Sept. 29, game here at the Carlson Arctic Ice Arena in Loves Park. Puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.

They will resume practicing daily at the Riverview Icehouse Monday, Oct. 1. Their first regular-season game as a member of the American Hockey League as a direct affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks is Saturday, Oct. 6, against the Quad City Flames at the I-Wireless Center in Moline.

The ’Hogs will play their first nine regular-season games on the road. Their first home game at the newly renovated MetroCentre is scheduled for Friday night, Nov. 2, against the San Antonio Rampage.
