The Rockford Chamber of Commerce and the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) announced that they will jointly offer the first-ever Springfield Fly-In Tuesday, May 15. This first-of-its-kind event features a same-day business trip to the state capital, and replaces previous day-long bus trips with a 30-minute flight to Springfield on an Allegiant Air MD-80.
Participants will depart RFD at 9 a.m., and will be in downtown Springfield by 10 a.m. Group activities are planned for the morning, with the full schedule to be announced shortly.
A noon luncheon at the historic Sangamon Club will feature a major state government speaker. Next, will be several presentations on state government, led by department directors, including Transportation; Commerce and Economic Development; and others.
Time will also be included for an optional tour of the newly-opened Abraham Lincoln Museum, before the return flight departing Springfield at 4:30 p.m.
Cost per person is $130, luncheon included. Seating is limited. Officials expect this trip to sell out fast. To reserve your seat, call RFD at 815-969-4446 or go to FlyRFD.com.
