Flag retirement ceremony June 16

The Rockford Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will conduct a flag retirement ceremony for United States flags at 7 p.m., June 16, at Loves Park Field of Honor. The public is welcome to attend.

Flags can be dropped off at the ceremony between 6 and 7 p.m., or prior to the ceremony at Akerman’s Professional Shoes, 1613 N. Alpine Road, Edgebrook Center, or the Winnebago Library, 210 N. Elida St., Winnebago.

Ashes from the retired flags will be scattered by air at a later date.

The retirement ceremony, which is part of Rockford Composite Squadron’s Cadet Programs, will be held in accordance with policies established by the United States Air Force and the Civil Air Patrol.

The Civil Air Patrol is the volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force and is composed of cadet and CAP Officer members. Cadet members are age 12-21, and CAP Officers are older than 21.
