Flood victims entitled to reduced assessment of property

To all citizens located within the township of Rockford whose property sustained structural damage due to the flood waters of Sept. 4, 2006:

Ken Crowley, Rockford Township assessor, informed victims of the Labor Day flood that they are entitled to a reduced assessment if their property suffered damaged due to the flood.

Assessor Crowley used a list compiled by the City of Rockford to generate certified letters to ensure property owners are aware of the special reassessment procedure for victims in declared disaster areas.

If you have a property damaged by the Labor Day rainfall, you may apply for a re-assessment of your property’s value. Property owners need to describe the extent of their damage on the application.

To request an application, contact the Rockford Township Assessor’s Office at (815) 965-0300. An application can be mailed or e-mailed to you, or you may stop by the Office of the Assessor at 401 W. State St., Rockford.

If you own more than one property that sustained flood damage, you will need to obtain one application for each property. Reassessment of properties with flood damage as a result of the Sept. 4 storm cannot happen until your application for reassessment is filed at the Office of the Assessor or the Supervisor of Assessments.
