Four Play on Block Five events this Thursday

Whether you call it an exercise in community pride or the result of downtown synergy, the Rockford Chamber of Commerce will hold a multimedia mixer from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17.

Dubbed 4-Play On Block 5, three downtown businesses including the Irish Rose (519 E. State St.), MedicineMan Graphic Design (510 E. State St.) and the Artery (514 E. State St.) will play host to the event. The fourth player in the event will be the unveiling of Saturn Studio owners, Mike and Parry Donze’s “Girls” print series.

“Girls”, which features several subjects who work in the Block Five area, is described as a Warhol/Lichtenstein-inspired serigraphic portrait series that uses a combination of photography and silkscreen to produce a dreamlike study of the beauty of women. The seven-piece series will be shown throughout the evening at the Artery.

“I just wanted to do something with the photographic process translated to silkscreen,” said Parry Donze.

“We are proud to be presenting Parry’s latest series for this special showing for the Chamber and the River District,” said Izzy of the Artery.

In addition to the “Girls”, MedicineMan Graphic Design will launch the new Irish Rose website, and other client websites created in the past year. Visitors will be able to view these sites on several monitors located within the company’s studio loft, which is located next door to the Artery and across the street from the Irish Rose.

The three-site party will be open to all members of the Chamber of Commerce, the River District and the general public. Tasty hors d’oeuvres will be provided by the Irish Rose at all the locations.

“I’m thrilled with the work MedicineMan did for us,” said Mike Leifheit, owner of the Irish Rose. “This party is a wonderful event for us to show off our new site and give people a chance to check out the Donzes’ work at the Artery.”

“I’m very excited about being a part of hosting this event,” said Sandi Kohn, co-owner of MedicineMan. “This is the kind of downtown activity and collaboration that Block 5 and the River District are all about.”
