FREEPORTThe Freeport Arts Center will host a Beer Tasting and Brat Festival on Friday, Aug. 6. This fund-raising event will be held at the Freeport Arts Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sample ales, lagers, pilsners, and other brews, while you enjoy brats and the trimmings and peruse exhibits of arts from around the world. This event is sponsored by Royal Liquor, Royal Pub West Inc., and Gilt Edge Farms. Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for general admission.

Also available on that night will be an opportunity to purchase tickets at a discount to An Evening with Groucho, a comedy presented by the Borderline Arts Coalition. Groucho Marx impersonator and PBS star Frank Ferrante has been hailed as skilled an interpreter of the late comic as we are likely to see. Tickets for the Feb. 10, 2005, performance will be available for $10 (normally $15) for those who purchase Beer Tasting and Brat Fest admission.
Established in 1975, the Freeport Arts Center shares the visual and performing arts with the people of northwest Illinois. FACs mission is to exhibit art from the collection and contemporary artists, present performing arts, develop arts education programming for all ages, and to fund cultural activities in northwestern Illinois.
Currently, FACs collection containsmore than 3,500 artifacts from all continents and all time periods including ethnographic objects from Egypt, Southeast Asia, and Papua New Guinea; Pre-Columbian and Native American baskets and pottery; excellent 15th to 19th century European painting, prints and sculpture; and a significant collection of contemporary American prints, paintings, and sculpture. The Freeport Arts Center is partially supported by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
The Freeport Arts Center, 121 N. Harlem Ave., is open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Tours may be scheduled by calling 815-235-9755.
