Funding available for relatives raising children

Nearly 8,000 children in northwestern Illinois are being raised by grandparents or other relatives. Many face major financial burdens because they live on a fixed income. The stress is often overwhelming.

Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging (NIAAA) has funding and other services available to assist with their caregiving challenges. The agency has state and federal funding for food, clothing, furniture and other emergency needs.

NIAAA also assists by providing information and support through groups and educational opportunities.
