Project Welcome Home (a program of Comprehensive Community Solutions) and Love In the Name of Christ are collaborating to hold Rockfords first furniture drive Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. As Rockfords local furniture bank, Project Welcome Home supplies furniture to those in need. Love Inc., operates a phone ministry that attends to the needs of the community through the resources of the local church. Because of the current high demand for household furnishings, Project Welcome Home needs to fill their warehouse with gently used furniture items such as sofas, upholstered chairs, coffee and end tables, kitchen tables and chairs, dressers, beds, dishes, silverware and linens.
You can help! Donations can be brought to the following Love Inc., network partner churches: Creekwood Baptist, 7281 Spring Creek Rd.; Washington Park Christian, 801 Concord Ave.; Northeast Christian, 5651 E. Riverside Blvd.; Maywood Evangelical, 3621 Samuelson Rd.
Donations may also be brought directly to the Project Welcome Home warehouse at 917 S. Main St. If you have furniture to donate and cant get it to one of these locations on that date, you can call Project Welcome Home directly at 963-6236, ext. 232 to schedule a time it can be picked up. If you fill out a donor information sheet, Project Welcome Home will send you a donation acknowledgement letter that can be used as proof of your donations for tax purposes.
Project Welcome Home has served 98 families already this year, giving out 566 large furniture items. Some families serviced had recently moved to Rockford from another state and were unable to furnish their homes, while others were moving off the streets in an attempt to start a new life. Several pregnant women who had been sleeping on the floor were provided beds to sleep on. Whatever the situation the recipient is in, the addition of furniture to their homes makes a world of difference. Donations (both cash and furniture) are accepted year-round.
