Furniture Medic makes house calls

DAVIS JUNCTION, IL—Unless furniture is kept under lock and key in an airtight vault, wear and tear is impossible to avoid. Damage such as water marks, broken legs and surface scratches cannot always be prevented, especially in homes where children and pets are present or in a commercial setting. Furniture Medic, a franchise company that has pioneered a distinctive onsite method of furniture restoration and repair, has come to Winnebago County.

Local resident Michael Philipps recently launched his medical practice for ailing furniture and will serve businesses and residences.

“Furniture Medic is an exciting new concept in furniture restoration,” says Philipps. “We are able to offer convenience by repairing damaged furniture in the customer’s home or place of business while also saving them money.”

Furniture damage may occur during manufacturing, warehousing or by daily wear and tear and can be repaired for less than the cost of refinishing or replacement. Furniture Medic’s patent pending Restoration Refinishing service uses environmentally friendly water-based products to give furniture a fresh, new finish without the odor, expense and inconvenience of conventional refinishing. Furniture Medic repairs scratches, dents, finish imperfections, water marks, broken joints, other damage and kitchen cabinet restoration.

“By repairing furniture on site and using advanced technology, little down time is required,” says Philipps. “Hotels, restaurants and other businesses don’t lose revenue, and residential customers don’t have to be without furniture for weeks.”

Philipps moved to the Rockford area 11 years ago. His hobby has been woodworking for more than 20 years, and he has been making and repairing furniture in his Davis Junction wood shop since he moved to this community. He first read about Furniture Medic in a woodworking trade publication.

Founded in 1992, Furniture Medic has more than 600 franchise locations across the United States, Canada and Europe. Furniture Medic is a part of the ServiceMaster Consumer Services network, which is headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., and includes eight market-leading companies that provides that provide a range of residential and commercial services.
