The work of “Ganos” (Tas Ganitopoulos) will be featured at the Galena Artists Guild’s “First Friday” art show Friday, May 5, 6-8 p.m., at the Galena Elks Club, 123 N. Main St., Galena.

“Ganos” is a naturalistic landscape oil painter and watercolorist who often uses symbolic realism in his work.

“When I first saw Galena, I was enchanted,” he recalls. “My Galena paintings show how somebody who doesn’t live in Galena sees and feels about it.”

Tas says the harmony and intensity of his colors is the music of an inspired event or location. Noting there is a melodious romance between him and the many places he has visited around the world, he finds Galena especially inspiring.

A resident of Northbrook, he created a symbolistic oil painting that hangs at the Holocaust Museum in Skokie, and he has exhibited at the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center, Suburban Fine Arts Center, North Shore Art League and the Fine Arts Festival in Northbrook.

Art Post Gallery ( in Glenview is showing some of his paintings. For one evening only, you can view his work in Galena.

“First Friday” is free and open to the public. Guild members provide a sumptuous food table, and the Elks offers full cash bar service. For more information, contact Tina Triana at 815/776-0858.
