Get ‘Down and Dirty’ for Muldoon Grove

Volunteers will get “Down and Dirty for the Muldoon Grove” on Saturday, May 19th, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Muldoon Grove Community Garden, at the Crusader Clinic on W. State St., 1200 West State Street, Rockford. Volunteers will help plant and spruce up this award winning community garden by volunteering their time and donating plants designed for the various garden spots.

The “Muldoon Grove” was designed by John Cook, landscape architect, in 2002 to commemorate Crusader Clinic’s 30 anniversary year. It includes 40 trees, several garden spots and meditation areas and a “healing garden for the senses” designed by The Rockford Garden Club. The centerpiece of the garden is the H. Ed Riddle sculpture, “Reaching out with Heart in Hand,” a 10-foot by 4-foot steel sculpture supported by the Rockford Area Arts Council.

Engraved bricks are available and make a nice everlasting gift to honor and/or memorialize a family member, friend, Muldoon alum, etc., that will be placed in the Muldoon Grove. Gifts of $50 and $100 will purchase two different size bricks. Naming opportunities for trees, $300 each, are also available. A gift acknowledgment will be sent to the honoree.
