“Arf! Arf! Arf! (Jingle Bells) Woof! Woof! all the way!”

The mission of the Humane Society of Winnebago County is to promote, support and provide for the humane treatment and welfare of all animals. This is accomplished primarily through the Society’s spay and neuter programs to reduce pet overpopulation. As a nonprofit organization, the Humane Society operates solely on money received from donations and fund-raisers.

The Society’s current fund-raiser, “Santa Paws Photos” by Solko Photography, is sponsored by Petco, 6305 E. State St., Rockford. Bring your pets and/or children to have their picture taken with Santa for this year’s holiday photo.

Sign up with the “Petco Tree of Hope” and grant the wish of a homeless cat or dog in our area. Jeannine French, president of the Humane Society of Winnebago County, explained: “They have a Christmas tree set up with paper ornaments (with pictures) of homeless cats and dogs. On the back is what they wish for, like a bone, a stainless steel bowl, a leash, a toy. People donate to that animal, and after the season, we go around to the shelters and distribute these items. It’s educational for the public to know that they’re not just mutts…there are lot of purebreds for adoption, too, older animals, special needs pets. It gives people an idea of what’s out there for adoption.”

Also, help support the Humane Society of Winnebago County by visiting the table of holiday items. Don’t forget those special “furry” friends on your Christmas list!

Dates are available through Dec. 24. Appointments are recommended. Call 229-0184 for more information.
