Girl Scout summer camp sessions available

Tired of dragging out that turtle-shaped plastic pool every summer? Trying to think of new summer fun for your daughter, granddaughter or special girl? Register her now for Girl Scout Camp! Your girl could enjoy archery, hiking, crafts, canoeing, woodworking and more at Girl Scout Camp Medill McCormick, near Stillman Valley.

Camp Medill McCormick has day camp (for ages 5-12) and resident (overnight) camp sessions (for ages 8-17) open to all girls starting June 16, 2002. Some resident camp sessions for 2002 include:

l Where the Wild Things Are for girls entering third through fifth grades—Girls will help to rehabilitate captured animals back into the wild, learn to identify animal calls, and have plenty of time to hike, swim, make s’mores and sing around the campfire.

l Girls at Work for girls entering sixth through eighth grades—Girls will tackle basic construction planning, learn how to use carpentry tools, and design something special to build.

l Whatever for girls entering ninth through 11th grades—Girls choose and plan all of their own activities while rooming at the newly restored “Trail’s End” unit. Activities can range from canoeing and swimming to crafts and horseback riding—the perfect out-of-school session!

If finances are tight for your family this year, Camp Medill McCormick offers some limited fiancial assistance to help give girls in need the chance to come to camp. To register your girl for one or more of Camp McCormick’s terrific programs, or to receive a brochure, please call Barb Vinyard at 962-5591, ext. 128.
