‘Give Kids a Smile! Day’ at Crusader

The American Dental Association (ADA) has announced that it will sponsor the first annual “Give Kids a Smile! Day.” As local components of the ADA, Winnebago County Dental Society members and dental hygienists will provide free dental exams and cleanings to children 12 years and younger. The child’s legal guardian will need to be present.

Crusader Clinic, 1200 W. State St., Rockford, has donated the use of its facilities, from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 22. Although the national ADA “Give Kids a Smile! Day” was designated for Friday, Feb. 21, the local dental association feels the Saturday date will allow for more individuals to receive care since children do not have to be absent from school, nor do parents need to take a day off from work. Children will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. For the past 40-plus years, the members of the Winnebago County Dental Society have honored this designation by giving oral health care presentations to the local first grade students. “Give Kids a Smile! Day” is just another way local dentists and hygienists can continue to promote good oral health to community and provide those who are underserved with much-needed care.
