Gloria Cardenas Cudia holds fund-raiser in the 'barrio'

Republican mayoral candidate Gloria Cardenas Cudia will have a fund-raiser in the “barrio” (neighborhood) on Sunday, March 6, from 1 to 4 pm at the Taco Loco Restaurant, 1122 S. Main St. in Rockford.

“One key thing that sets me apart from the other two mayoral candidates is that I speak Spanish fluently,” said Cudia. “I want to utilize this gift by continuing to reach out to the Hispanic community unlike any mayor has done before.”

According to a recent Rockford Register Star article, by the year 2008, the Latino community will be a $1 trillion market in the United States. Agenda, the National Council of La Rasa’s magazine, clearly states that Latinos now number approximately 40 million people in America.

Cudia has been going door to door and continues to meet with leaders in Rockford to learn about the key issues on their minds. “Latinos care about the same issues that most Americans care about, such as receiving the best education possible for their children, eliminating the red tape associated with business startups, and crime,” said Cudia.

“Many people don’t realize that Winnebago County is the No. 1 county in crime per capita in the State of Illinois,” continued Cudia, who currently serves as a member of the Winnebago County Crime and Public Safety Commission. “As Mayor of Rockford, I will be tough on crime to assure a better quality of life for all our citizens.”
