Green Car Demo and Dinner at Cliffbreakers

Everyone enjoyed the 14 hybrid, biofuel and electric vehicles on display, and representatives from Toyota, Honda, Ford, Saturn, Volkswagen, E-Ride (electric scooters) and Zenn (electric cars) dealerships were on hand to answer questions and explain the financial and environmental benefits of the various alternative fuel vehicles. Additionally, a 1987 Mercedes 300D diesel that runs on vegetable oil, a 2006 Mercedes Smart Car and the Rockford Park District’s hybrid SUV, two E-85 pick-up trucks and a biofuel mower were on display. Choices Natural Market and Hazzard Free Farms provided organic products and produce. Organic wines were provided by Heritage Wines. This Wednesday, Sept. 19, will be the final event in the 12-week Green Harvest series, hosted by Cliffbreakers and The Rock River Times to benefit the Illinois Renewable Energy Association, Four Rivers Environmental Coalition and Green Communities Coalition. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the wine tasting and dinner will feature a drawing for a trip for two to California wine country, including airfare, two nights and dinners in a Cliffbreakers-affiliated hotel and two winery tours.
