Green Party organizing here

The Winnebago-Boone Counties Green Party has elected three officers and established three committees as it continues to organize. Its moderator is community activist Stanley Campbell.

A meeting of the new party is scheduled at 7 p.m., Jan. 14 in the auditorium at the Rockford Public Library, 215 N. Wyman St.

The meeting is open to anyone interested. Ron Rehfeldt is chairman of the communications committee; Dori Kearney is secretary and David Black of Belvidere is treasurer.

“Many people are selecting the Green Party as their party of choice because there is a need for an alternative voice to the struggling two-party system. Many of the 10 key values stated by the Green Party have to do with issues that are not being addressed adequately by the two major parties in our country,” Kearney said.

“Many citizens are looking for a way to work on these issues and for candidates who address them.”
