Greenwich Village Art Fair Sept. 17-18

The tradition of the Greenwich Village Art Fair is long standing, 57 years to be precise.

The Fair is held on the grounds of the Riverfront Museum Park, and Chairman Scott Prine and his committee work very hard each year to create an artistic atmosphere.

“It’s a great day of art, food and music,” Prine said.

The juried art fair features more than 100 local, regional and national artists. Here is your chance to purchase a watercolor, oil, acrylic, sculpture, photographic masterpiece, ceramics, glass, wood, fiber or jewelry. The call to action is to buy art!

There’s a gourmet food marketplace, Young at Art Village Pub, including a tropical grill, specialty drinks and Gloria Jean’s Gourmet Coffee, Art Bar Wine Tent and Point Bar Vodka Lounge brought to you by Kortman Gallery.

Doc Slafkosky explained: “This creates a sophisticated oasis for patrons to relax and think about what they wish to purchase. They want to spend more time here because it’s a fun atmosphere.”

You will have the chance to create while you enjoy a drink! Live music at the Kryptonite Music Club Stage includes Jodi Beach Trio, Miles Nielsen, Doug Fleming, and more.

Bring the entire family—it is an extremely good value at $4 a person (children 12 and younger are free).

The kids have superb opportunities to explore their artistic talents at Creations by Kids. The Rockford Art Museum instructors assist children in a variety of art activities.

Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18.

If you wish to contribute generously of your time, volunteer opportunities abound. There are several shifts and duties to choose from, but there is a definite need on Sunday. For more information, call the Rockford Art Museum at 968-2787.

Anne E. O’Keefe is executive director of the Rockford Area Arts Council.
