Groove Walk set for May 14

n Thirteen River District establishments host night of live local music

Want to spend an evening listening to amazing local music, hanging out in trendy nightspots and enjoying delicious food and drinks all night long? Want all of this without having to drive all over town? Well, mark your calendars for Saturday, May 14, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., because the 7th Annual Groove Walk is right around the corner!

Produced by On the Waterfront Inc. and the River District Association, Groove Walk features 13 River District establishments as they each host a local, award-winning band or artist. Looking for some hard rock? More of an oldies fan? What about classic rock, blues, country or R & B? Well, Groove Walk 2005 has them all. Groove Walk announced this year’s outstanding lineup of Best of Rockford and RAMI-nominated musicians with their corresponding River District locations, as follows:

Jinger Christal—Swilligan’s Pub, 200 N. Church St.

Whalebone—Octane, 124 N. Main St.

U.S. Radio—Kryptonite, 308 W. State St.

Steve Stapler—Gaspo’s Auto Inn, 310 S. Church St.

Orange—J Bear’s Place, 315 S. Main St.

Frank Calvagna & Opan Jil—Paragon On State, 205 W. State St.

Mr. Big Stuff—C.J.’s Lounge, 300 E. State St.

Cosmic Donkey—Carlyle Brewing Co., 215 E. State St.

Basement Blues Band—Deb’s Little Italy, 501 E. State St.

Toad Soup—The Office NiteClub, 513 E. State St.

Ernie & the Po’ Boys—Bacchus, 515 E. State St.

Dean Moriarty Jazz Band—Irish Rose, 519 E. State St.

Agnus Jackson—Big Cities Lounge, 905 E. State St.

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased for only $5 in advance at Kelley’s Market locations throughout Rockford, Roscoe, Rockton, Machesney Park, Belvidere, Cherry Valley and Loves Park, the Beer Gear Store at LaMonica Beverages, Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant, Big Cities Lounge, Carlyle Brewing Co., C.J.’s Lounge, Gaspo’s Auto Inn, Irish Rose, Paragon on State, Swilligan’s Pub and Tickets may also be purchased the night of the event for $7 at any participating establishment. One Groove Walk ticket admits you to all 13 establishments where you can enjoy 13 fantastic bands! Walk from establishment to establishment or hop the RMTD trolley for a free ride as it runs along the Groove Walk route throughout the event.

In addition, a portion of the proceeds from this event benefit the RAMI’s Gary Wilmer Scholarship Fund, which helps graduating seniors continue their music education in college.
