Group Hope expands depression support

Again, clinically depressed and bipolar people have increased access to free mutual help meetings. Group Hope has expanded Wednesday meetings to every week. These 7 p.m. Wednesday meetings at the YWCA now offer child care from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for people who need child care in order to attend.

Because 65 to 70 percent of depressed or bipolar people fail to get access to care, Group Hope offers free mutual-help meetings. This group adjunct to medicines and counseling allows people who know the “black hole,” suicidal urges and worthless pain to find that they are not alone. There is hope in such a group.

The meetings are every Monday, 6:30 p.m. at Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State St.; every Wednesday at the YWCA, 4990 E. State St.; and every Thursday at Camelot Tower, 1415 E. State St. on the 9th floor.
