Group submits petition to impeach Blagojevich

CHICAGO—Citizens to Impeach Blagojevich delivered via e-mail the signatures of 1,365 Illinoisans on a petition calling for House Speaker Michael Madigan (D to launch an impeachment investigation of Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) in accordance with Section 14, Article IV of the 1970 Illinois Constitution.

The ongoing budget crisis has clearly shown that Blagojevich has become to Illinois what former Gov. Gray Davis was to California. Unlike the Golden State, Illinois has no recall provision upon which the people can act. Therefore, a group of Illinoisans launched a petition Web site ( in an effort to give voice to their fellow citizens who have grown frustrated with the near criminal mismanagement of the state’s finances.

In addition to Speaker Madigan, the petition and signatures were delivered to House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R), Attorney General Lisa Madigan, and Blagojevich himself. Citizens to Impeach Blagojevich intends to continue collecting signatures and forwarding them to Speaker Madigan and others as they are compiled.
