Finger-picking guitar guru, Peter Lang will perform in Rockford Saturday, April 21 at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. The show will mark the release of Live at Charlotte’s Web, a DVD collection of his prior Charlotte’s Web performances from the 1970s and ’80s.

Lang has recorded and performed with everyone from Jerry Garcia to Paul Butterfield and has earned many top awards including seven gold albums and a 1976 Grammy nomination. He also grabbed Best Guitarist honors at the Minnesota Music Awards in 1981, 1982, and 1988 and co-authored the book, 20th Century Masters of Finger-Style Guitar.

Lang was discovered in 1972 and since has earned the reputation of one of the world’s most talented acoustic guitar players, despite a 20-year absence from the music business, returning in 2002 with Dharma Blues and Guitar (2004). Footage from Live at Charlotte’s Web also includes his 2006 performance in Rockford.

“Lang is nonetheless one of a handful of acoustic guitarists who defined new American styles in the 1960s and ’70s by drawing from this country’s own rich musical heritage, and going deep into musical esoterica from around the globe,” says Thom Jurek of All Music Guide.

The show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Rockford Area Arts Council, The Kilt & Clover, The Postal Shoppe and Just Goods.

The performance is sponsored by Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts. More information can be found at or by calling the organization’s information line at 815-964-2238. Peter Lang can be found online at
