From press release
Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity volunteers and homeowners will celebrate a summer of hard work when they dedicate five new homes Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 1 p.m. at 3426 Gladstone Ave. in Rockford. Each dedication will take approximately 20 minutes with refreshments served at the last house at 3 p.m.
The dedication ceremony includes a home blessing, an opportunity for the new homeowner to thank volunteers and sponsors, and turning over of the keys. Volunteers and homeowners have worked diligently on the houses since framing them Saturday, May 5. Record pace was kept this summer, especially since the build site is only open three days a week.
Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity, incorporated in 1988, is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that works in partnership with people in need of decent shelter to build simple, affordable houses. Habitat homeowners purchase their houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgages while contributing 300 hours of sweat equity labor working on the homes.
