From noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, the Friday Forum at Gordon Chapel of Second Congregational United Church of Christ, 318 N. Church St., will focus on the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.
Jeffrey Kiel, manager of the Rockford Barnes & Noble bookstore, will offer his thoughts about the moral and character issues raised by the series, especially as they are reflected in the battle of good vs. evil.
While some Christian churches have received a great deal of attention when expressing reservations about, or even rejection of, the Harry Potter series of books, there are many Christiansand other people of faithwho appreciate the books for what they teach about courage, conflict resolution, honesty and other valuable traits.
The event is free and open to the public.
