Heart of Rockford Awards accepting nominations

The 15th Annual Heart of Rockford Awards is accepting nominations which encourage and recognize physical improvements and personal commitment to Rockford’s downtown River District.

Nomination projects must have been completed between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2000. Describe in two pages or less the significance of the project or person nominated. Include nominator’s name and telephone number. Slides and before/after photos are encouraged. Recognition of the architect, owner, interior designer and/or realtor are recommended for each entry. Award winners will be publicly recognized at the Heart of Rockford Awards celebration on July 10, 2001 at the Coronado Theatre.

Award categories are:

1) New Business—Any new retail, commercial or restaurant business that has made an impact on the quality of life for Rockford residents. 2) Commitment by an Individual or Business—Any individual or business that has furthered the image or economic development of the River District. 3) Historic Preservation—Any historical restoration project that maintains the integrity of the original structure and enhances the River District. 4) Residential or Commercial Renovation—Any interior, exterior, facade or sympathetic renovation made to a building in the River District. 5) Festival or Special Event—Any special event or festival open to the public held in the River District. Nominations could include street festivals, fundraisers, holiday celebrations, music events, parades, races or arts and cultural activities.
