Hey, Rockford—come out and Start! walking with the American Heart Association! More than 800 local residents will fight cardiovascular disease at the Northern Illinois Start! Heart Walk on Saturday, April 28, at Rock Valley College. Walkers raise funds to support the lifesaving research and community education programs for the American Heart Association. This year’s fund-raising goal is $105,000.

A new element to this year’s Heart Walk is Start!, the American Heart Association’s workplace walking program that encourages corporate America to foster a culture of fitness among its employees. Among the new elements this year are three villages: Create Hope, Inspire Change and Celebrate Success, which will allow participants to share their own unique stories from honoring survivors, inspiring heart-healthy life changes and celebrating significant lifestyle changes.

The American Heart Association Start! movement is sponsored nationally by Subway, Healthy Choice and Astra Zeneca. The Northern Illinois Start! Heart Walk is sponsored by OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rockford Health System, Swedish American Health System.
