Help the homeless stay warm this winter

As the temperatures drop, there are people in our community who are cold because they do not have appropriate winter wear.

There is a critical shortage of warm gloves, hats and coats for homeless men and women in Rockford. Donations of items to fill this immediate need are being accepted at The Carpenter’s Place, 1149 Railroad Ave., Rockford.

The Carpenter’s Place provides a safe, warm daytime facility for homeless individuals working to rebuild their lives. Shower facilities, storage of belongings, a mailing address, phone to use, message retrieval, laundry service, clothing and personal care items, life skills and art classes, support groups, and two meals per day are provided to assist homeless men and women in their quest for self-sufficiency. With the support of case managers, CP “guests” are linked to area agencies that offer a range of helpful services. Info: 964-4105, ext. 211.
