Rockford Area Mexican Business Association (RAMBA) will host the Second Annual Fiestas Patrias Parade & Festival Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-16.
The parade will kick off at 1 p.m. at the corner of Broadway and 11th streets in Rockford and end at Marinelli Field in Blackhawk Park on 15th Avenue and South Main. Line-up will start at noon.
The festival, scheduled from 2 to 9:30 p.m., will include live music and entertainment by local and regional bands, a variety of foods, informational booths, activities for children, and prizes.
On Broadway, starting from 11th Street to Kishwaukee, businesses from the city will have a sidewalk sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A donation of $5 per person, with children younger than 10 years old free, will go to offset the costs of the festival and help the association provide scholarships and educational opportunities for Hispanic Rockford residents.
Hispanic Heritage Month begins Sept. 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countriesCosta Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence Sept. 16, and Chile Sept. 18.
