Hoax or Healthy Living? spotlight on complementary medicine

SwedishAmerican’s Midwest Center for Health and Healing at Alpine and Newburg roads in Rockford will host a special free event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 4. The theme of the evening will be “Complementary Medicine: Hoax or Healthy Living?” The event will feature area complementary medicine practitioners with interactive booths from 6:30 to 7 p.m., presentations from 7 to 8 p.m., and a question and answer period from 8 to 8:30 p.m.

Throughout the evening, guests may sample a variety of therapies, taste healthy snacks, or relax with a soothing therapeutic chair massage while gaining insight into practices such as: herbal medicine, nutrition counseling, exercise counseling, yoga, art therapy, and health coaching (a brief and empowering form of counseling). Each area will explore common myths about complementary medicine such as the thought that vegetarian diets cannot provide adequate nutrition or that individuals with a serious illness should not exercise.

Clinic information will be available for interested clients on various holistic therapies in conjunction with the treatment of heart disease, cancer, arthritis and other chronic conditions. Guests will also have the opportunity to have their questions answered by holistic healthcare professionals, and refreshments will be served. The public and area healthcare professionals are invited to attend this free event. For more information or for reservations, please call (815) 484-8710.
