Hogan advances

Rockford’s Jamie Hogan, who fired 64 to tie the amateur course record at 6,673-yard, par-71 Rockford Country Club May 16 in local U.S. Open qualifying, next will play in the 36-hole sectional qualifier June 6-7 at Village Links in Glen Ellyn.

Even with that stellar score, Hogan didn’t lead the local qualifier. Instead, he finished second, one shot behind pro Kevin Streelman of Winfield, who had 63. George Archer holds the pro record at RCC with a 61 during the Rockford Pro-Am, said the local daily.

Six of the 88 golfers at RCC advanced to Glen Ellyn. They were Ted Brown, Richmond, Va., 65; Jason Larson, Jacksonville, Fla., 67; Ryan Torchia, Naples Fla., 68; and Joseph Affrunti, Crystal Lake, 68. Torchia is a 1995 Rockford Boylan graduate who was an assistant pro at RCC from 2000-02. He now is an assistant pro at Twin Eagles in Naples, Fla.
