Holiday greetings make wishes come true for children

CHICAGO—For today’s busy people, sending holiday greetings can be more “big chore” than “good cheer.”

Keep the spirit in the season with Send-A-Wish, an easy way to send holiday cards from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois that helps grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions.

For every $20 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, the Foundation sends to the recipients of your choice a charming holiday card—drawn by a child helped by Make-A-Wish, gratefully acknowledging your donation in the recipient’s name.

The really heartwarming part: Addressing, stamping and mailing are all taken care of by Make-A-Wish!

Donors whose Send-A-Wish card lists total $5,000 or more have the very special option of choosing a specific wish to fulfill. Make-A-Wish will share with everyone on your list all the touching details of granting the heart’s desire of a child fighting serious, often chronic illness.

“Send-A-Wish is a holiday greeting that doubles as a year-end charitable donation,” notes Pam Devereux, executive director of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois.

“Participating is especially appealing to businesses because it couldn’t be easier,” Pam says. “We can use mailing lists sent by e-mail, or on computer disks formatted in Word or as an Excel spreadsheet. And we guarantee delivery before the holidays, as long as we receive your list by Dec. 5.”

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the largest wish-granting organization in the world. Since its start locally in 1985, more than 5,000 children have gained strength and hope as they experience a wish come true. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois serves children in 70 countries throughout central and northern Illinois. To refer a child or for more information, call 800-978-WISH (9474) or visit
