Holiday Parade in River District on Dec. 9
River District Association is very happy to join with 97ZOK and Cumulus Broadcasting to support Steve and Stefs Holiday Parade at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. The parade will be on Wyman Street starting at Davis Park and ending up at Church and Green sts.
Some local businesses will be open for a few hours that day to give visitors to the area some things to do and places to eat. Among the offerings for that day are: The Bethlehem Express (A Childrens Christmas Musical) with the Youth Choirs of First Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m. at the church; Hometown Holiday at Memorial Hall, 3 p.m.; Wizard of Oz at New American Theater, 2 p.m.; Rockford Lightning game at the MetroCentre, 3 p.m.; J.R. Kortman Center for Design, open from noon to 5 p.m.; and Tinker Swiss Cottage, with a special celebration of Christmas Past. This is in addition to other museums in the area that are usually open on a Sunday afternoon.
Steve and Stefs Holiday Parade has come a long way from the Target parking lot a few years ago. The past two years, it was in River District, starting at Madison and State streets, and marching north on Madison to the YMCA. It kicked off the Community Tree Lighting at Sinnissippi Gardens and the Festival of Lights official lights-on ceremony the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
This year, the date has changed for all of the above, and the location of the parade has changed. Everything will happen on Sunday, Dec. 9, starting with the new parade route.
