HoliDazzle! hits Jubilee stage

A dazzling mixture of Las Vegas glitter and glamour combined with down-home holiday charm takes the stage with HoliDazzle! A Spectacular Holiday Follies! at Jubilee Theatre at Clock Tower Resort. Show runs through Dec. 31.

HoliDazzle! stars the show’s creator, Don Grant Zellmer, who first produced the elaborate production in his dinner theater in Peoria, where it ran for 11 holiday seasons, playing to multiple thousands of patrons from the Midwest. Now the producer of the Jubilee Theatre, Zellmer is making Rockford the destination for his popular and exciting show.

“The show is a combination of the unexpected,” said Zellmer. “We celebrate the holidays, but we take audiences on a holiday trip that’s unforgettable—from Las Vegas to Hollywood, back in time to the 1950s, and even the tropics. Guests will enjoy many holiday favorites, but what makes this show unique is the approach of tossing in completely unexpected surprises.”

Indeed, the show’s dancers have quite the task at hand—or rather, on their heads with elaborate headdresses and costumes directly from Las Vegas—some weighing 20 pounds. Countless feathers, sequins, and rhinestones adorn the glittering costumes, truly placing the “dazzle” in HoliDazzle!

Filled with high-energy dancing, songs of the season, showgirls, comedy, heart-warming classics, and dazzling lifting and special effects, HoliDazzle! has something to put everyone in the mood to celebrate this season.

Zellmer is the star of the show as lead singer and emcee, and the cast also features Casiena Raether (who is also choreographer for the production); Catherine Bozzi; Kimberly Bigler; Joe Bohn; and Jacob Bailey.

“When we first created HoliDazzle! we didn’t know how big it would become,” Zellmer said. We had our signature showgirls, and built from there. We discovered so much good material out there, and commissioned a lot of original stuff as well. This Rockford production will represent some of the best segments from the many years we produced it.”

Zellmer has appeared as a singer and emcee in Vegas shows, legitimate theater, film and last season performed in Branson, Mo., as the headliner in “The Bad Boys of Branson.” He came to Rockford to reopen the Clock Tower theater, and HoliDazzle! is the theater’s fourth production of the season. Already, multiple tour buses are booked for the show, and it will always be a fixture of the theater each holiday season, with several dates in 2004 already booked by tour groups.

When the concept of HoliDazzle! was originated, the crew studied many holiday shows and decided to “turn up the heat a notch” and produce a high-energy, elaborately costumed spectacle. “And that’s when the accumulations of Las Vegas showgirl costumes started building,” Zellmer said. More and more sets of costumes were added each season.

HoliDazzle! plays at 8 p.m. every Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Dinner packages area available with dining at Bellamy’s prior to the production. Many other performances are scheduled to show in addition to the regularly scheduled format, and a full schedule is available by calling 229-4033.

Tickets for the show range from $26 to $28, and dinner/show tickets range from $44.25 to $46.25. Group rates are available for parties of 20 and more.
