Holocaust Observance set
The Jewish Federation of Greater Rockford will hold its annual Holocaust (Yom HaShoah) Memorial Observance at 3 p.m. on April 22 in Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main Street.
This years keynote speaker is Dina Oppenheimer, who will recount her experiences during this tragic time in history, and explain how she is compelled to share these experiences with students and groups throughout the greater Rockford area.
Holocaust survivors or their descendants will offer a moving candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the six million Jews and one million others who perished in the Holocaust. Special recognition will be given to area teachers who have completed courses of Holocaust studies and now incorporate Holocaust programs into their classroom curriculum.
A special exhibit of Holocaust projects created by students of Nancy West (Guilford High School) will be on display. Music will be provided by local youngsters and professionals, along with vocal solos by internationally famous operatic baritone, Ian Geller.
The public is invited to attend the Observance free of charge and to partake of refreshments following the program. Memorial Hall is handicapped accessible. For more information, call the Jewish Federation offices at 399-5497.
