Homeowners who intend to have a garage sale anytime during the three-day Saleing Rt. 75, Illinois 40-Mile Garage Sale are urged to sign up now, says the events organizing committee. The event is Friday-Sunday, June 2-4.
Homeowners can obtain sign-up sheets from their towns Saleing Rt. 75 representative, by downloading it from the Web site www.saleingrt75.com or by calling 815-248-3166. Residents who sign up are asked to pay a $15 fee. In return, they will receive an official Saleing Rt. 75 garage sale sign, listing on the official Web site, and other promotional considerations.
Marketing Saleing Rt 75 is entirely dependent on sponsorship fees we receive primarily from homeowners, says committee member, Phil Meyers. To bring people to this event, we need to advertise it. Thats what the residents fees are used for. The $15 sponsorship fee is less than what it costs most homeowners to run an ad and get a sign on their own.
Marketing efforts include ads in newspapers in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin, along with other print media, radio commercials and public relations. The efforts have brought hundreds of people in from as far away as Texas, and brought attention to Saleing Rt. 75 in national publications.
This is the fourth annual sale, says Meyers. Right now, the committee is carrying a deficit from past years. We just cannot go ahead without funds. Thats why were asking residents to sign up now so we will know how much advertising we can do.
Meyers says most homeowners having sales during Saleing Rt. 75 do extremely well, better than most have ever done with their own garage sale. However, some dont realize that the advertising that brings buyers to their sales has to be purchased. Without residents funds, its just not going to happen.
Saleing Rt. 75 is Illinois longest garage sale. The 40-mile event involves hundreds of residents, garage sales and other activities in and near seven towns along Illinois Rt. 75 from Interstate 90 and Rockton Road to Dakota, Ill. It includes the towns of Rockton, Harrison, Shirland, Durand, Davis, Rock City and Dakota. All are in Illinois.
