Concerts for Charity presents the Second Annual Hot Fest For Hospice, an event to benefit Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center, and Visiting Nurses Association Hospice. They deliver exemplary care to the terminally ill of all ages and walks of life that choose to die in dignity, at home surrounded by those they love. Each year, hundreds of area families are touched by the kindness and support of these not-for-profit care providers—perhaps even someone you know.

Hot Fest For Hospice is a celebration of music and great food, held from 5 to 11:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, and from 2 to 11:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, at Davis Festival Park in downtown Rockford. Enjoy non-stop live music on two stages, plus a double dose of the Hot Fest Salsa Competition, with both Professional and Amateur “heats.” A $5 donation gets you a two-day ticket into what’s becoming the area’s hottest summer festival.

Friday, see the area’s best-prepared salsas as local restaurants and professional caterers showcase their culinary talents and compete for the Hot Fest “Best Salsa” trophy. Come early and enjoy Roots Rock Society, “Best Entertainer,” 2004-Chicago Music Awards. Other entertainment includes Reggie, Agent Zero, Sara Abramowitz and Emily Hurd. Stay late and enjoy the cool sounds of headliner and national recording artist Ian Moore.

Saturday, the heat is on as the amateurs bring their best recipes and compete Iron Chef-style, in a timed competition as the crowd cheers them on. Last year’s winner won a trip for two to Las Vegas, and it’s the public who judges, making it tasty fun that you won’t want to miss. Entertainment includes: Jim Hagerty, The Blunatics, Mike Owens, X51, Barstool Bob, The Stevee Nix, Dirtyville, “Elton” Jim Weston and headliner Men of Our Times.

Restaurants and amateurs interested in participating in either salsa competition can contact or Doug Furze at (815) 519-2268. Buy tickets at Gray’s IGA, Rockford Area Arts Council and The Postal Shoppes.
