Hot Fest For Hospice, a two-day music and culinary celebration benefitting Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center and Visiting Nurses Association Hospice, heats up downtown Rockford Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10-11.
Hot Fest will be on the shores of the Rock River at Davis Park, 320 S. Wyman St. The new location provides the festival with room for a larger crowd and a great place for everyone to gather.
Tickets to the festival are $5 for both days and are available at Grays IGA, Rockford Area Arts Council and The Postal Shoppes at Edgebrook and Perryville. Festival hours are 5-11:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, and 2-11:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11.
This years salsa competition is hotter than ever, with the addition of The Professional Salsa Competition, where local commercial makers are taste-tested by a panel of celebrity judges and the public. The winner will get bragging rights and take home the Hot Fest Salsa Trophy.
Saturday is the return of the Amateur Fresh Salsa Competition, where teams compete in a timed showdown, Iron Chef style, with the public again judging who wins. Last years winner won a trip for two to Las Vegas, and this years prize will be announced soon.
