For the second consecutive year, The Rock River Times (TRRT) has placed in three categories of the Illinois Press Associations (IPA) Better Newspaper Contest.
The IPA, the largest statewide press association in the country with more than 600 daily and weekly newspapers from throughout the state, notified TRRT of the awards in a letter Aug. 10. Exact placements (first, second, third or honorable mention) within the categories will be announced at the IPAs annual convention Oct. 13-14.
TRRT staff receiving recognition in this years awards include the following:
Cartoonist Charles Story, who received an honorable mention for his editorial cartoons in last years competition, placed in the same category this year;
Former columnist Phil Pash placed in the Sports Column category; and
Photographer James Thompsons photograph of the Peking Acrobats from the Feb. 16-22, 2005, issue placed in the Feature Photo category.
TRRT, which joined the IPA in March 2004, is competing against other IPA non-dailies with a circulation of more than 10,000 newspapers.
