How to apply for Arthur Martinez Scholarship
An AM Music Scholarship Fund has been established to honor the memory of the late Arthur D. Martinez, a local musician who was killed in a tragic automobile accident on Jan. 27, 2001. Martinez was an accomplished musician and composer who played guitar, bass guitar, banjo, piano and horn. He formed several bands such as Glove, AM Band and FSZ and toured with them. Later he joined the Dennis Pucket Band and again toured throughout the United States. A few years later, he became manager of Cascio Music in New Berlin, Wis. and was sought after by many musicians to be their sound coordinator. Later, he left Cascio Music to venture out on his own. He started his own business called AM Music in Delafield, Wis. He was able to teach and share his gift and love of music with many students in Wisconsin.
Martinez returned to Rockford in 1998 and formed a new band called Art Attack. The band was becoming highly recognized, appearing in various hot spots from Rockford to the Janesville area. Art Attack performed at the Beloit Riverfest and was scheduled to play at Navy Pier in Chicago in the summer of 2001. Unfortunately, Art, as he was known to his friends, did not live to make that performance. Also in 2001, Art Attack was nominated for the RAMIs by peer musicians and bands. Art Attack was victorious and took home the RAMI in the Funk, Soul, R & B category. Fellow band members proudly dedicated the RAMI to Art Martinez, their fallen band leader.
