hunky dorie*s opens Holiday Galleria of eclectic apparel

Rockford’s premier vintage apparel shop will open its doors Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7 for two days of eclectic shopping. This new cooperative emporium at 221A E. State will include hunky dorie*s unique selection of “hi fi” style garments and wearables and other textiles by artists Ruth Ann Molyneaux and Julaine Lofquist-Birch.

Established by Rockford entrepreneurs, Kristine Isonhart and Andrea Mahan, hunky dorie*s usual mode of operation is the Internet, but this weekend they are opening their doors to Rockford-area shoppers. Their merchandise features casual and evening wear, coats, lingerie and lifestyle wares from the 1940s through the 1970s with some items from the “rock ‘n’ roll” 1980s.

Ruth Ann Molyneaux designs fiber art works under the studio name “Ruth Ann’s Rags.” Her original art quilts have shown in major festivals across the United States. She also works her art on clothing, neckpieces, shawls and brooches. Her paperwork includes handmade greeting cards and collages.

Julaine Lofquist-Birch fashions hand-dyed ruanas—comfortable, flowing over-garments. She will show these unique wearables with one-of-a-kind fiber jewelry and bags for evening and daytime wear. Archetypes with universal meanings appear in her artwork.

Hours for the Holiday Galleria are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and 2 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7.
