IceHogs swept from playoffs

The Rockford IceHogs 2005-06 season is over. The ’Hogslost to the Kalamazoo Wings in the second round of the Colonial Cup playoffs, four games to none.

In a do-or-die situation for the IceHogs Wednesday night, May 10, the ’Hogs and Wings were scoreless in the first period. Rockford was able to grab the lead—for the first time in the series—on a short-handed goal by Jason Notermann. The goal came at the 5:18 mark of the second period.

Rockford was only able to hold on to the lead for 1 minute, 43 seconds. The Wings’ Tyler Willis tied the contest at the 7:01 mark.

With only 1.8 seconds left in the second period, the Wings took the lead for good. Tyler Rennette scored the eventual game winner, off a pass from teammate Willis.

The Wings added an insurance goal in the third period, and ended the ’Hogs’ hope for a run at four in a row.

In the Colonial Cup finals, Kalamazoo will meet the winner of the Danbury Trashers-Muskegon Fury series.
