Old Chicago plays host to free gatherings for second straight year
The Rockford Area Illini Club (RAIC), named Outstanding Club for 2005-06 by the University of Illinois Alumni Association, continues its mens basketball TV game watch season at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19.
The Fighting Illini, two years removed from an NCAA Championship game appearance, will be at Missouri Dec. 19.
Old Chicago, 6280 E. State St., will host RAIC game watches for the second consecutive year, and will make a $1,000 donation to the RAIC scholarship fund, after donating $667 last year. RAIC game watches, which are free and open to the public, will feature raffles and drink specials.
In addition to the Arizona game, RAIC plans the following TV game watches, all at Old Chicago: Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, vs. Ohio State, 1 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, vs. Iowa, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, vs. Wisconsin, 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, vs. Michigan State, 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Indiana, noon; Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, vs. Michigan, 8 p.m.; and Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Iowa, TBA.
Old Chicago, near Burlington Coat Factory and Dicks Sporting Goods in Rockford, boasts more than 75 seats in its smoking section and more than 130 seats in its non-smoking section. The family-friendly restaurant and bar has six 35-inch TVs, 11 27-inch TVs and one 73-inch HDTV. In addition to regular daily specials, Illini food and drink specials will be offered throughout the night, including the Orange Crush.

RAIC is a social and service club for fans and alumni of UIUC serving the four-county region of Boone, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago. About 550 fans and alumni are members of RAIC.
Every year, the club, which has three times been named the U of I Alumni Associations Outstanding Club, awards five scholarships of 1,000 each to freshmen at UIUC graduating from high schools in the clubs four-county region. About 75 percent of funds raised through dues and club outings go to the scholarship program.
Annual membership to RAIC is $15 per single membership or $25 per couple membership. Lifetime memberships are also available.
