Illinois’ 40-mile garage sale returns June 1-3

“Saleing Rt. 75,” Illinois’ 40-mile garage sale, has been awarded a grant of $820 by the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau to promote the event outside the Winnebago County area. The grant will be used for advertising in four states.

Now in its fifth year, Saleing Rt. 75 involves hundreds of residents, garage sales and other activities in seven Illinois towns along Illinois Rt. 75 from Interstate 90 in Rockton to Dakota. This grand weekend of sales includes the towns of Rockton, Harrison, Shirland, Durand, Davis, Rock City and Dakota. Dates of the event are Friday-Sunday, June 1-3.

This year, the town of Dakota will host its Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) in conjunction with Saleing Rt. 75.

Avid garage sale shoppers can find everything they want—and more—along the route. Businesses and organizations will go all out to welcome shoppers. Churches and organizations will have flea markets and rummage sales. Restaurants and vendors will sell food. For convenience, portable toilets will be available for shoppers as well as businesses opening their facilities.

Garage sale organizers see Saleing Rt. 75 as a way to introduce visitors to the towns, businesses, rural scenery and other features of the area.
