Local racing enthusiasts who are looking for something to do between now and the Daytona 500 are invited to attend the Illinois racers auction. The annual event will be this weekend (Friday-Saturday, Jan. 5-6) at the Sportscore Indoor Sports Center. The facility is at 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park.
Auction officials will begin accepting items for consignment at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 4. The building will close at 9 p.m. Doors open to the public at noon Friday. The auction begins at 1 p.m. and will go until 9 p.m.
Greg McKarns of Midwest Motorsports said, Bidders should arrive early to register for their bid cards and receive their free catalog.
Bidders are encouraged to return Saturday, when the doors open at 8 a.m., and bidding begins at 9 a.m. The Prime Time Part Lot sale starts at 11 a.m., with the C-Lots starting at noon.
Last year, the auction used only half of Sportscore, but this year, the entire facility is scheduled for use. In addition to the auction, there will also be a variety of vendors and seminars held during the two-day event. The list of those expected to attend reads like a whos who of local racing, including: ARCO Racing Starters, ASA Midwest Tour, Beway Racing Products, Coleman Racing Products, Competition Race Technology, Lefthander Chassis, Mid-American Stock Car Series, Pathfinder Chassis, Specialty Auto Parts, Wegner Automotive Research & Engines, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products and Zander Radio Systems.
Admission to the event is $10 for adults, children 11 and younger are free. For more information, call 316-7841.
