Independence Day with RSO!

This summer, the Rockford Symphony Orchestra audiences will gather under the stars in the open air for a very special evening of patriotic music.

RSO proudly announces its first annual summer concert to celebrate the Fourth of July—the ComEd Independence Day Spectacular. In cooperation with Rock Valley College, the RSO will perform at 8 p.m., Saturday, July 6 in the newly renovated Bengt Sjostrom Theatre at RVC. The patriotic program will include such favorites as “America the Beautiful,” “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Yankee Doodle,” “The 1812 Overture” and many more. Winnebago County Board Chairman Kris Cohn will appear with the RSO to narrate a piece titled “Liberty for All,” and Karen Harding will take up the conductor’s baton to lead the orchestra in the “National Emblem March.”

“This is something I’ve wanted to do ever since I first arrived in Rockford,” said RSO Music Director Steven Larsen, “and at Rock Valley, it’s a great opportunity to perform in a state-of-the-art new venue.”

The Bengt Sjostrom Theatre, which has just completed the second phase of an $8 million renovation, is home to Rock Valley College’s Starlight Theatre season, drawing approximately 23,000 people per year to the campus. “We’re very excited about our collaboration with the Symphony on this concert,” said Rock Valley College President Chip Chapdelaine. Rock Valley College is a resource for the whole community, and bringing new artists and new audiences together is just what we hoped to accomplish with the renovation.”

Hear the musicians of the RSO like you’ve never heard them before—performing outdoors! Bring the whole family and enjoy the musical fireworks! Tickets for this patriotic evening under the stars are on sale now. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $14 for children under 18.
