Indoor football premieres in Rockford

The United Indoor Football (UIF) league made its premiere in Rockford April 1 as the Sioux Falls Storm handed the Rock River Raptors their first loss of the season, 46-20, in front of more than 6,194 fans at the MetroCentre.

The Storm jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead on a 7-yard touchdown run by quarterback Terrance Bryant.

The Raptors came right back as they drove the ball to the Storm 1-yard line, and quarterback Ben Sankey took it the last yard. After the extra point by Dillon Pieffer, the Raptors had their only lead of the game at 7-6.

Sioux Falls took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring Rock River 21-0 to lead 33-7 at halftime.

Sankey ended the night with 103 yards passing on 11 of 21 attempts. Bryant threw for 120 yards and one touchdown.

Luke McArdle made his season debut for the Raptors, catching six passes for 61 yards.

Rock River (1-1) travels to Bloomington, Ind., for a game with the Bloomington Extreme (1-1) April 8, then heads to Sioux Falls April 15 for a re-match against the Storm.
